Monte Carlo, Monaco in a Day with Kids
Just outside Chemin parking, there is an amazing ocean view. We followed the sidewalk until we got to the Marina. We took our time walking along this area- then we walked up a giant hill to the casino. There are elevators throughout the city, but the view and the people watching was enjoyable. After sightseeing around the ritzy casino we ate our packed lunch in a park nearby with ocean views.
We then took the “Ascensor Rainier” (avoided the hill) down to the Quay and took a bateaux (taxi boat) back to the other side. Then, we took the lift & escalators (located in Chemin parking) into to the old town.
The old town is quite charming. We had an ice cream while we enjoyed our walk, then we took the children to the Oceanographic Museum.
The Oceanographic is more fun than it sounds. First of all, the building is iconic- it’s built into the cliffside. The aquarium tanks showcase sea creatures from the Mediterranean Sea and tropical oceans. There is also a tank where you can touch small sharks. My children loved this part.
There is also an interesting area called the Cabinet of Curiosities – with unique and historical items relating to sea exploration.
Not to miss though is the rooftop of the museum where there is a café and play area. The views of the ocean and Monaco are amazing. It was a great way to end the day for both kids and parents. Don’t miss it!
Our parking was perfect as it was a simple escalator and lift back to the car. Great for tired feet.
We chose to park at Chemin Parking- this is basically a parking lot built into the base of the cliff that the old town of Monaco and the Oceanographic Museum sits on. Once we got on the right road to the parking lot, parking was convenient. There is an elevator/lift and escalators that will take you up to the Old town.
